This is a new direction for me. I decided to investigate what it would be like to work on a hard surface instead of a canvas. It allowed me to add a lot of gel mediums and 3-D pieces to it to go in a sculptural direction. The Deepwater Horizon oil spill has really had an impact on me and I wanted to create a piece on it. The netting has gel medium and paint in it to portray the oil entrapped but also to portray the long-term predicament we are now faced with.
