This is the 5th painting of my Amalfi Coast series, in my continuation of creating paintings from a trip there. I chose to do an interior of a church courtyard to complement the others I have painted depicting the coast. I wanted to use a different color palette from the others to not only be different but also to bring in light, bright colors that were reflecting off of the church columns during the afternoon sun while I was there. I also wanted to portray the idea of something sacred, filled with light and a refuge from the outside world. This space could be a private world for someone who desires reflection.
