Underwater Explosion
Mixed Media on Board and Canvas
30x30

I decided to paint on a board and then glue that board to a canvas for added dimension. This piece is an abstract idea of what the Deepwater Horizon explosion must have been like under water. I wanted to use a lot of bright colors, since the explosion took place in the Gulf, but also juxtapose those colors with a lot of movement and hard, fragmented angles piercing out of the water. There is also red added to the piece to remind us that people died in this tragic event.
